Preparing for Kid Zone 2010-2011

As September is fast approaching, Kid Zone is prepping for another great year. Kid Zone is our K-4th grade Children's Church that meets during the 10:00 AM worship time during the school year. The theme for the first half of this year's Kid Zone season will be CAMP! This will be a fun theme with colorful characters, zaney puppets and much more. The first ten weeks will focus on being a disciple of Jesus Christ.

Right now, Greg is writing the curriculum and working on the room. Kid Zone team sign ups are also under way. Kid Zone team members must be entering the 5th Grade or older to serve on a team. Each team needs puppeteers, actors/actresses, audio/video people, and two areas that adults are specifically needed include backstage directors and tappers (sit with kids and help keep them focused). Each team will need two, preferably experienced, puppeteers that can work together to "man" our large but friendly, bear puppet.

There is a sign up sheet in the T&B Atrium or contact Greg to see how you can be a part.

Easter Sunday for Kids at T&B

This Sunday, the Children's Ministry at Tenth and Broad will be celebrating the Easter season in some fun ways. First off, there will be a fun, indoor egg hunt for kids at 9:00 AM sharp. Don't be late or your kids will miss out (sorry there's nothing we can do about late attenders). Kids, be sure to bring your own basket to hunt with! There will be a section for kids Pre-K and under and one for elementary.

Volunteers are welcome to help scatter eggs around the Family Life Center at 8:30 AM and everyone is welcome to become Living Easter Trees by standing around in the FLC and holding an egg or two to add to the egg hunting fun!

The Children's Ministry will be providing the candy filled eggs (a special thanks to the Preteens who filled all the eggs last Sunday night!). We do ask that after the hunt, parents help their children empty the candy out and return the eggs for future use.

Following the egg hunt, Nursery and Preschool age children can be taken to their normal, Sunday morning classroom. All kids K-6th grade will be meeting for a special, combined Easter focused class in the Chapel.

There will be no Kid Zone or Preschool Station running during the 10:00 AM Service. We encourage all families to worship together on this special morning.

Something's Missing without You!

I just wanted to say a big thank you to all our volunteers who bless the lives of our children and families by teaching Bible classes, serving in Kid Zone and all the other many opportunities we have for volunteers. We can't do it without you!

We have serveral opportunities to serve with the start of our new Fall quarter and Kid Zone is kicking off in a couple of weeks. Please don't miss out on helping.

Kid Zone Teams

August has arrived and with comes Kid Zone team sign ups. Kid Zone is the Tenth & Broad Church of Christ weekly children's worship time for kids K-4th grade. We have four teams that server for the school year. Each team works once a month (team one on week one, etc.).

Teams are made up of kids (must be entering the 5th grade), youth and adults. We have need of actors/resses, puppeteers, song leaders, backstage directors (adults only), audio/video folks, and folks to sit with kids and keep them focused (we call them tappers).

Kid Zone is a fun, creative, kid-focused time of worship, and learning. We observe the Lord's supper, sing songs of praise and worship (with a bit more action and movement), study God's word, and pray.

This year, our theme will change about every six weeks, so we can keep things fresh and engaging. Hope you will join us sometime. Not sure about serving right now? Come visit us one sunday and see if there's a place for your passion, skill or talent.

Kid Zone will begin the sunday after Labor Day, Sunday, September 13.

So That's Where All The Dirt Has Gone

I have been teaching creation from Genesis to my young boys class on Wednesday nights for the last six weeks. Tonight we finished talking about how God rested. As we were going back over the days of creation, I mentioned that God had formed Adam/man out of dust or dirt. One of the boys in my class chimned in, "Yes, God made man and woman and kids from dirt. No wonder we've been loosing dirt in our backyard. My mom has four kids."

Last TAG for the Summer

This Thursday is our last TAG (Thursday Activities with Greg) of the 2009 Summer months. With events taking up the FLC and Greg's trip to Africa, we've had a one or two less TAG dayss this summer, but we've had a great time at the one's we've had.

This Thursday we will have TAG as usual, ending up our time with our traditional TAG Talent Show beginning after lunch (around 12:15 PM). All kids are invited to come show us their talent. Whether it's singing, playing an instrument, doing a skit with friends, showing a drawing or any other talent, Thursday is your day to shine. Anyone needing special music will need to bring it.

Hope to see you Thursday!

Greg

TnbKids Joins Facebook

Like many people my age, I'm regular Facebook user. I have Facebook friends from my Jr. High days all the way to folks I see daily. Facebook has become the way people stay connected, whether they live across town or across the globe.

Some time back I attempted to create a seperate social network for the children's ministry, but after much thought and conversations, it just seemed silly to try to create yet another place for people to go/join. Instead, creating something that was a part of what people were already using (Facebook) seemed much more logical and productive. And so, we now have a Facebook page for the Tenth & Broad Children's Ministry.

If you aren't much of a Facebook user you might be asking yourself, "Self, why does he need a Facebook for the children's ministry?" The answer is communication and not just one way, force-feeding information communication, but the back and forth exchange of information through discussions, comments, wall posts and more.

My goal is for our page to be another point of contact with those involved in the ministry and for those interested in or being introduced to our children's ministry. Our tnbkids.org website will soon get a make over as it becomes the hub of our online presence while utilizing great tools like Facebook, Twitter and the like. If you are on Facebook stop by and become a fan. You can find us here.

If you see yourself as "net-savy" then I just might be looking for you to help out and blogging, updating, writing, or monitoring our online presence.

How do you use Facebook, if you do, and if you don't, why don't you?
